Acapulco Nights 2/22/14, Guest Mix and Interview with Pablo Yglesias

Excited to have Pablo Yglesias a.k.a. DJ Bongohead down to the station this week. Studebaker Hawk interviews Pablo about his upcoming exhibition Visual Clave: 50 Years of Latin Album Cover Design. The exhibition will run for a month at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in the Student Union Gallery, and features the many facets of Latin album covers, as well as original artwork in association with the theme. The opening party is Thursday February 27, and features DJs, Bongohead, Studebaker Hawk, and Andujar, among others, and a live performance by Jesús Pagán y Conjunto Barrio. Legendary designer Charlie Rosario will also be in the house, telling stories of how he created covers for classic Latin LPs by Eddie Palmieri, Charlie Palmieri, Larry Harlow, etc. In addition to many collections of Latin and African music, Pablo has released on Vampi Soul and the Rough Guides series, he put out the seminal book on Latin covers Cocinando!: Fifty Years of Latin Album Cover Art. Pablo is also a percussionist for the Afrobeat revival group Shokazoba. Throughout the interview, Pablo drops a lot of great latin records, so tune in for excellent music as well.
